[ARCHIVED] Voluntary Evacuation

Voluntary Evacuation - FB

Mayor Thom Kolupski has issued a voluntary evacuation for residents and businesses in low-lying areas in Seabrook, specifically lower Todville from Red Bluff south to SH 146 and Baywood Drive. These portions of Seabrook are most prone to storm surge and flooding. The National Weather Services has issued a Hurricane Watch and Storm Surge Warning for these areas with an anticipated three to five feet of storm surge in Seabrook based on the current track of Tropical Storm Beta. This is forecasted to be an extended elevated tide event from Sunday evening through Wednesday.

The latest update from the National Hurricane Center predicts Tropical Storm Beta will develop into a Hurricane, making landfall Sunday evening. Due to the potential for storm-surge and heavy rainfall, the City of Seabrook has determined it is in the best interest of the residents in these areas to make preparations to leave.

This notice is very important to elderly residents and/or people with medical conditions. We encourage these residents to evacuate these portions of the city at your convenience, however, due to rain, storm surge and the probability of heavy traffic you are encouraged to do so sooner rather than later. Residents should also prepare their home for high winds and secure any loose items on their property.

All residents and businesses are encouraged to sign up for emergency alerts online at www.seabrooktx.gov/alerts . Tropical Storm Beta updates will also be posted to the city’s social media networks.
