Water Conservation

The City of Seabrook is not currently under mandatory watering restrictions; however, it is highly recommended that residents and businesses conserve water whenever and wherever possible. According to the Water Conservation and Drought Contingency Plan, if the city’s water usage exceeds 4.25 million gallons of water per day for five consecutive days, the City of Seabrook must enter into Stage 1 Water Restrictions. Stage 1 is the first of five possible stages before emergency conservation is needed.

It is also important to note that water use restrictions may be implemented if the City experiences a reduction of water pressure due to water main breaks and equipment failures. The stage of restriction will be based on the severity of the issue.

Voluntary Water Conservation Tips

  • Adjust your sprinklers so that they’re watering your lawn and garden and not the street or sidewalk.
  • Water early in the morning (before 8 a.m.) or later in the evening (after 7 p.m.) when temperatures are cooler, and evaporation is minimized.
  • Set it, but don’t forget it! Whether you have a manual or automatic system, be sure to adjust your water schedules throughout the irrigation season.
  • Inspect your overall irrigation system for leaks, broken lines, or blockage in the lines.
  • Add a shut-off nozzle to your garden hose and save about 5 - 7 gallons each minute your hose is on.
  • Adjust your mower to a higher setting. A taller lawn provides shade to the roots and helps retain soil moisture, so your lawn requires less water.
