Over the past several days we have experienced a historic winter storm that has resulted in a large percentage of our residents being without power for three days and now we are facing a critical water supply failure. It is imperative that residents stop using water and shut off water to your homes if you have a leak.

CenterPoint is currently reporting that the majority of Seabrook residents are experiencing a power outage. The City of Seabrook has been at the mercy of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) and the electric companies that provide electricity to our residents. These organizations have been very unreliable and this is totally unacceptable. The City of Seabrook does not have the ability to control and restore power. Seabrook’s temperatures are not likely to get out of the 40’s until Saturday, so for those who still have power, it is essential that you conserve electricity as much as possible. 

I know that we have asked our residents to make significant sacrifices these past few days, but we will get through this crisis. In times like these, we all need to do our part and work together. We should be lifting one another up, checking on our neighbors and doing what we can to conserve our resources. 

Our first responders and city staff are doing a phenomenal job of providing city services under incredibly difficult circumstances. Many have personally lost power and water to their homes and are worrying about their families while continuing to serve our community. They are true heroes and I am so grateful for their resilience. 

And speaking of Public Works I would Kevin Padgett, the Director of Public Works, would like to discuss our critical water shortage.

As Thom mentioned, we are at critical low water levels and everyone should immediately stop using water and turn off the water to their homes if they have leaks. If you are unable to turn off the water to your home, please contact us and we will come out and assist. If the water needs to be turned off at the meter, please do not attempt to do this yourself, we will come out and turn it off for you. 

If you are a Seabrook water customer you may contact us in a variety of ways. Prior to contacting us, please ensure you are in fact a City of Seabrook water customer by checking your utility bill. If you receive water from Taylor Lake Village, El Lago, El Jardin, Pasadena or Clear Lake Water Authority please do not contact us as we will not be able to respond. 

If you are a Seabrook water customer you may call or text (281) 636-8687. Please leave a message or text your name and address so we can send someone out. You may email PW@seabrooktx.gov and you may reach out through the City’s Facebook Messenger at Facebook.com/seabrooktx. Finally, if you have a leak or your neighbor has a leak and you see a public works vehicle, you may also flag them down and they will stop to assist you. You may also contact us if you live in a Seabrook apartment complex and are unable to contact apartment maintenance.  

Our Public Works crews have been working around the clock to help protect, maintain and now repair our water and wastewater system. The prolonged freeze has damaged pipes throughout the city and it is rapidly depleting our water supply. Everyone must do their part to stop using water. Our water levels and pressure will not stabilize until the leaks can be repaired. So again, I cannot stress it enough… turn off the water to your home if you have a leak and stop using water immediately.

I just want to encourage the residents of Seabrook to give some extra Seabrook Love during this difficult time. If you have a warm home, have stores of water or even some extra food, please offer it to your friends and neighbors. As the day progresses, more and more streets will become accessible and people will be able to leave the area if necessary for their health and safety. 

The water supply failure and power outages are expected to continue, therefore we all need to help one another as much as we can. Together, Seabrook, we will get through this crisis.
